GAELS OPEN SEASON WITH WIND.C. Gaels 9-7; Three Rivers Strikers 2-9
Club PRO
The D.C. Gaels hurlers welcomed the Three Rivers Strikers to the Capital Region on Memorial Day Weekend, for their first game as a club. For many of the Gaels, this was also their first competitive game. Mike, Eric, Terence, welcome to the chaos! John Blackburn also performed admirably in his first match in goal. Due to reduced numbers, the teams played 10 men each, and the Gaels lent Pitt several players to fill out the side. The hometown Blues got off to a hot start with four goals by Tom Kinealy, and another by Terence Kane. Scoring slowed down somewhat after that as the Gaels settled on dropping points over the bar. Paul McGreevy, Jim Goeke-Morey and Kevin Kingston provided stout defense in the backfield. Pittsburgh steadied themselves after the half and managed a scoring flurry, but the fledgling club could not keep up with D.C. in the end.
